Nice to meet you!
Hello new flower friend!
My name is Colleen and in addition to leaning against lamp posts laughing about variegated foliage, I grow flowers on a 2 acre home farm in the agricultural flats of Washington State’s beautiful Skagit Valley. I started this flower adventure in 2017 while my husband and I were both full time musicians living in Portland, Maine and in the words of Ron Burgundy, it escalated quickly. We ended up moving to a farm in rural Maine and then home to Washington where we were both raised. After spending a couple of years renovating a farmhouse in shambles (it wasn’t a cute renovation, trust me), I can focus on flowers again and am so excited to finally be making this seed company plan a reality.
Unlike so many of my colleagues, nobody’s grandmother taught me to grow anything. My grandmothers were powerful women who wielded humor and a cup of tea better than any, but I learned flowers from the perfect combination of a library card, really generous farmers who were on the path ahead of me, and making all the mistakes. Why does this matter? It means that if I can learn to do it, you can learn to do it!
Songbird Seed Co. is one component of Diadem Flower Co., but you’d be surprised how many people struggle with the word Diadem (DYE-edem) so I thought I’d make it easier for everyone and call it something else. And my decades long career as an Irish singer made it an easy pick.
So a very big welcome to you, and if you have any questions at all, please feel free to reach out. My email is colleen@diademflowers.com or you can catch me in a DM on the socials.
